“Growing up in the war time without water, electric energy, real school, sleeping in basements, dirty shelters, constantly surrounded with death, screams, danger, blood, hunger, coldness, noises of shells and sniper bullets left me with severe post traumatic disorder.  I felt like I did not know how to survive in normal life… I was emotionally detached, angry, unable to learn, concentrate or sleep, feeling afraid and startled constantly. My reality was twisted and I lived in hell... Horses brought me back by helping me rebuild my self-esteem, teaching me how to focus and overcome the fear, and how to look beyond instinctive reaction. It has been a long way for me and now, I am a successful young woman, determined to share this gift with others…”
-SENADA PEKARIC, Founder and President of Riders of Hope

“At the age of 9, my childhood was quickly stripped away by my sudden realization of the fragility of life and the concept of death as I watched my friends being rushed off to hospitals and cemeteries. I left Sarajevo on what became the last convoy for women and children to leave the city. I fought tears as I watched my dad and the rest of my family became smaller and smaller silhouettes in the exhaust fumes of the buses. This was the last image I had of my father for the following 2.5 years of my life as a refugee in the Czech Republic. Horses were a lot more than a hobby to me… they were my sanctuary, an outlet, and a source of strength to endure the buckets of trauma.”
-MAJA HADIOMEROVIC, Founder and Vice President, Riders of Hope

“As the parents of child with special needs, we heard and read about the benefits of therapeutic riding. Unfortunately until now we haven’t had an opportunity to try it. My son is suffering from muscular dystrophy and so far this is the only activity that inspired him to do and give more of himself… For us, it’s been like miracle seeing him so alert and agile…”
-BOSNIAN PARENT

“We are struggling with a lack of therapeutic activities for our children and adults with disabilities. The programs and activities do not exist in Bosnia.  Having a therapeutic riding program could cover so much, from sports activities to therapy. We are crossing our fingers that the people who can will help…”
-NAZMIJA HADZIMUSIC, DIRECTOR OF OAZA, Sarajevo School for Children with Disabilities

“From a medical point of view I am aware of all the benefits of therapy with horses, and as a Bosnian citizen I am even more aware of the importance of activities like this for our society. I am extremely proud of Senada’s effort to give the opportunity to the Bosnian special needs community to benefit from this type of activity. I personally will be involved in the progress of these activities and plant the seed to educate our therapists in field of hippotherapy. We really need this…”
-BAKIR NAKAS, Director of National Hospital of Sarajevo

- SENADA PEKARIC, osnivac i predsjednik Jahaca nade

-MAJA HADIOMEROVIC, osnivac i potpredsjednik, Jahaci nade

-BAKIR NAKAS, direktor Drzavne bolnice u Sarajevu.
